Upcoming Events, and you know, Horses.
I have so many exciting things to share with you all!
First, I want to invite you to the Out of Chicago 4th Annual Summer Conference. I'll be part of the staff again like I have been for the last two years. One of my absolute favorite things to do at the conference is to welcome everyone as they arrive, and hand them their registration packets. I'll be doing that again this June so please make sure to say Hi.
volunteer for out of chicago
Part of my job for OOC is to gather the many volunteers that help us run the conference. If you're not already registered to attend, and you have some free time on your hands the weekend of June 24th and 25th, email me so that I can get you signed up to help. We do really put you to work when you volunteer but it's fun (and we give you a free tee shirt too).
attend my classes at out of chicago
New for me this summer is that I'll also be teaching at the conference. I've developed a brand new presentation called Ten Tips for Brilliant Equine Photography. There will be one session on Saturday and one session on Sunday. While you might like looking at pretty pictures of horses I can just hear many of you thinking that you don't necessarily want to learn how to photograph them yourselves. Here are my thoughts about that: First, almost everyone I know enjoys photographing wildlife. Did you know that the skill set for making better equine images is very similar to making wild life images? It is. So that's reason #1 you should sit in on my class. You'll improve your wildlife photography. Reason #2 is that my class will be totally different from the many amazing street photography and architecture classes. If you stop in to see me, it will help clear your mind a bit. After a 60-minute break learning about horses, you'll be refreshed and ready to head back out there to learn more city photography skills. It's a win-win (if I do say so myself).
learn lightroom collections
Saturday afternoon I'll also be teaching a mini workshop about effectively using Lightroom Collections to build portfolios. I know you probably spend $10 every month on an Adobe CC subscription. Do you take full advantage of it? Learning to use Lightroom Collections is one way that you can maximize the benefits of your Adobe CC subscription. And, more than that, this class is going to be really intimate so once we cover the basics of Lightroom Collections, we're going to dive in and work together to create portfolios of our best work - professional-looking portfolios that we can easily share. If you have a friend that makes you stand around for 10 minutes while they scramble around, searching for their latest, greatest image on their smart phone, tell them they need to take this class.

O Canada!
About a week after the Out of Chicago Summer Conference ends I'm heading to Canada to check off a major item on my Bucket List. Yes, Canada. I know that might not seem bucket-list-worthy to many of you but it is to me because Canada is the home to Sable Island. And Sable Island is the home to a gorgeous herd of wild horses. You knew there had to be horses if it were on my Bucket List, right? I'm spending 4 days road-tripping around the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland. Think: gannets, puffins, whales, icebergs, seascapes, lighthouses and quaint villages. Then I'm hopping aboard a 200-passenger expedition ship for a 9-day cruise. There will be more sea life, whales and birds as we chug along but the best part is that for 4 whole days, we'll be anchored outside of Sable Island. We'll take daily zodiac trips to shore too so we can hike the island, photograph its natural beauty and of course, photograph the horses. There are seals too. I'll pretty much be in heaven.

north carolina and kentucky
A few weeks ago I was photographing the wild banker horses along the coast of North Carolina so I've already been honing my boat and water photography skills. That was a hot, buggy and sunny trip and Canada will be a cold, grey, windy one but I'm excited to see what story parallels I can make with these two very different herds of coastal horses. Images to come from that NC trip soon.
En route to NC, I stopped in Kentucky too, and photographed race horses at some local breeding farms. I'll post some details on that soon too since it was fun and incredibly accessible.

Cowgirl Yogatography SPECIAL Guest TEacher
I also have some really amazing photography opportunities coming up soon and the best part is, you can join me on them on both of them! First, this fall I'll be a special guest teacher at Big Sky Yoga's Cowgirl Yogatography. You can see details about that here and register here.
In January 2018, on our Salt River Wild Horses photography workshop, co-teacher PJ Kaszas and I will work with you to find and photograph gorgeous wild horses in beautiful settings like this one.
I think that's it for now but whew! That was a lot of stuff to share all in one post wasn't it? Make sure to leave a comment for me if you have any questions or if I didn't give enough detail about everything.
