I spent a lot of time this Spring and Summer photographing horses. My pre-teen equine obsession showed up in full force again in April, when I attended a wild horse photography workshop in New Mexico.
The day I landed in Albuquerque, it was hot. Coming from Chicago, I felt almost suffocated, like my blood was too thick for such weather. I hadn’t been to the southwest in the longest time, and it took me a few days to get over the heat, the altitude, and the scruffy, sandy beigeness of the landscape.
Photographing wild horses is a watchful, contemplative process and gradually, I felt the raw, real beauty New Mexico.
